In the Bison world, a female or matriarch leads the herd, hence the name of this image, “Leading Lady”. If you watch a herd of bison in the fall when they are all together-males and females, you will notice that their will be one female who is watching you. One female will hang back and keep her eye on you as the bulls and young and other females move on, she will stand guard. This was the last female and she was keeping a close eye on me. . I love the way the light is highlighting her eye. There is just something so feminine, yet so formidable about her.
